The US Air Force has awarded Skydio two early multimillion-dollar contracts to accelerate the rollout of small drones across its Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units.
Through these agreements, Skydio X10D systems will be supplied to Air Combat Command units, enabling TACP personnel to use them for battlefield reconnaissance, enhanced situational awareness, and communications assistance.
TACP teams typically work alongside ground troops, helping identify targets and guide air support.
EOD teams are also adopting the drones for day-to-day base operations and mission deployments. More deliveries are expected within the next 18 months.

Drones for Broader Air Force Missions
The service has been expanding its reliance on small drones for duties including aircraft checks and base defense.
Security personnel already employ Skydio drones for installation security and perimeter patrols.
At Travis Air Force Base, the 60th Maintenance Group launched the Air Force’s first drone-powered C-17 inspection initiative, which has notably shortened inspection timelines.
The program aligns with a wider push to modernize maintenance operations and reduce risks to Air Force personnel.
