The US Army has awarded BAE Systems a $390-million contract to supply more Bradley A4 infantry fighting vehicles. The acquisition is intended to replace older variants and bolster vehicle protection, lethality, and survivability for troops.
A core asset of Armored Brigade Combat Teams since the 1980s, the Bradley fleet exceeds 6,500 vehicles. The latest A4 upgrade incorporates modern digital technologies, advanced situational awareness systems, and integrated communications to support operations in demanding environments.
Manufacturing will be distributed across BAE facilities in South Carolina, Alabama, Minnesota, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with additional support provided by the Red River Army Depot in Texas—a major US military hub specializing in combat vehicle maintenance and sustainment.
The first units are scheduled for delivery in October 2026.
Measuring 22 feet (7 meters) long with capacity for up to 10 soldiers, the Bradley features laminate armor providing 14.5–30 millimeters of protection depending on configuration, supplemented by explosive reactive armor against anti-armor weapons.
The vehicle is typically equipped with a 25mm Bushmaster chain gun, M240 machine guns, and tube-launched anti-tank missiles. It is powered by a 600-horsepower Cummins VTA-903T diesel engine, enabling speeds of up to 35 miles (56 kilometers) per hour and a range of 250 miles (402 kilometers).
