FN America has been awarded a $9.9-million contract to supply additional M240B medium machine guns to the US Army and US Navy, continuing the production of a weapon system that has supported American forces for decades.
Under the contract, the company will manufacture the M240B machine guns at its production facility in Columbia, South Carolina. FN America described the award as an extension of its long-standing partnership with the Pentagon, noting that the original M240 contract was the first military order the company received and also the first weapon produced at its South Carolina plant.
Chambered for 7.62×51mm NATO ammunition, the M240B serves as a medium machine gun used by infantry units for suppressive fire. The weapon features a cold hammer-forged barrel with a hard-chromed bore, designed to enhance durability and maintain firing accuracy over extended service life.
According to the company, the system has a maximum effective range of about 3,725 meters and is built with a steel receiver fitted with a MIL-STD-1913 rail for mounting optics and accessories.
Production of the M240 platform for US forces dates back to the late 1970s, when FN began domestic firearm manufacturing. Since then, the company reports producing millions of weapons for the US military.
In addition to the latest contract, FN America has secured several recent deals for small arms and related components. In July 2025, the company received a $4.9-million contract to deliver additional M240L lightweight medium machine guns to the US Army.
Earlier, in March 2025, FN America won a contract valued at up to $39.6 million from the Defense Logistics Agency to supply barrels for both M240 and M249 machine guns, supporting sustainment of weapons systems used across multiple US service branches.
Going back further, in June 2021, the company secured a $92.1-million contract to produce M240 series machine gun variants and spare receivers for the US Army.
