Latvia has received Giraffe 1X air-surveillance radars from Sweden, significantly enhancing its ability to detect and track potential airborne threats.

The Latvian Armed Forces have already fielded the Saab system, first employing it during the Baltic Zenith 2023 drills.

An additional procurement contract for more Giraffe 1X radars was finalized in December 2024.

Capable of identifying missiles, hostile drones, rockets, and mortar launches at extended ranges, the mobile radar delivers high-quality targeting data to command-and-control centers.

The system offers detection ranges of up to 400 kilometers (248 miles).

Weighing less than 150 kilograms (330 pounds), the lightweight 3D radar supports rapid deployment operations.

It can be fitted on land vehicles, integrated on ships, or placed at fixed locations.

Its mobile configuration can be set up by two operators in under 10 minutes and disassembled in under five.

Designed for strategic mobility, the radar can be transported aboard C-130, A400M, and C-17 aircraft and moved using standard container-handling tools.
