Peru has signed a framework agreement with South Korea to procure K2 Black Panther main battle tanks and K808 White Tiger armored personnel carriers—a deal that could become Seoul’s biggest ground equipment export to Latin America and the first deployment of the K2 in the region.
The agreement outlines Peru’s intention to purchase 195 platforms: 54 K2 tanks and 141 K808 vehicles, developed jointly with Hyundai Rotem and Peru’s Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory.
Although pricing has not been officially announced, several South Korean news outlets estimate the agreement could surpass 2 trillion won ($1.3 billion), with final contracts expected in the coming year.
This partnership follows Poland’s $6.7-billion acquisition of K2 tanks earlier in the year, aimed at reinforcing its land capabilities amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The Peru deal further expands South Korea’s defense export reach as it targets new regions and strengthens its global market presence.
South Korea, currently ranked 10th among global arms exporters, aims to advance to 4th place by 2027.
