Norway has signed a third contract with Hanwha Aerospace, ordering 24 additional K9 VIDAR self-propelled howitzers from South Korea.
The deal will increase Norway’s artillery fleet to 52 systems by 2027, with Hanwha once again meeting the armed forces’ expectations on cost, schedule, and capability.
Oslo’s partnership with Hanwha began in 2017, when it purchased K9s under a 1.8-billion-kroner ($181 million) contract as part of its artillery modernization program. In 2022, the government exercised an option for further units after confirming the K9’s strong performance in Arctic environments.
