The US Department of Defense has signed a $140.8 million deal with Northrop Grumman to begin production of five E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes destined for Japan through a foreign military sales agreement inked in 2024.
The contract covers non-recurring engineering work and will largely take place at Northrop’s facility in Melbourne, Florida, with additional activities across the continental US. Oversight will be provided by the Naval Air Systems Command in Maryland.
The broader $1.38 billion arms package approved for Japan includes not only the aircraft but also mission-critical systems such as radar, GPS, engines, avionics, and electronic warfare tools. Delivery will include both integrated components and spare systems.
Completion is scheduled for March 2029.
