BAE Systems has been awarded contracts totaling about $171 million to supply next-generation programmable ammunition to Sweden and Finland, reinforcing their defense capabilities amid heightened regional security challenges.

The deals, concluded with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, will enhance artillery and air defense readiness as Northern European nations continue to increase defense investment.

The contracts include deliveries of Bofors 40mm and 57mm 3P (pre-fragmented, programmable, proximity-fused) ammunition, designed to defeat a broad spectrum of threats ranging from unmanned aerial systems and missiles to fast attack craft and ground targets.

Sweden’s armed forces will field both calibers across their inventory, while Finland will receive 57mm rounds for naval use, strengthening existing stocks and improving the operational reach of shipborne guns and ground-based air defense systems.

These programmable munitions will be deployed on current platforms, including armored vehicles and air defense units, providing flexible response options against emerging and complex threats.

BAE Systems has steadily expanded its defense footprint in Sweden and Finland in recent years through a series of major procurements.

In June 2025, the company secured a follow-on contract worth nearly $62 million to supply additional 155mm BONUS precision-guided artillery rounds to the Swedish Armed Forces, supporting Stockholm’s efforts to enhance long-range firepower.

In addition, during May and December 2024, BAE Systems finalized a multi-billion-dollar framework agreement with Sweden and Denmark for the CV9035 infantry fighting vehicle program. The arrangement includes dozens of vehicles for Sweden and more than 100 for Denmark, along with integrated training, logistics, and lifecycle support.
