Lockheed Martin has reached a major milestone with the delivery of its 250th MK 48 Guidance and Control Section — a critical element of the US Navy’s heavyweight torpedo arsenal. This advanced system features high-performance processing and tracking technologies designed to detect and neutralize fast and deep-diving underwater threats.
Built to operate in extreme pressure environments, the MK 48 enables dynamic undersea engagements through real-time course adjustments via the submarine’s fire control system. With a liquid-fuel propulsion system, integrated digital guidance, and a 650-pound high-explosive warhead, the MK 48 remains the backbone of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare across all US Navy submarine classes.
