INS Nistar, the Indian Navy’s first indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV), has been formally inducted into service at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, in the presence of India’s Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth. This landmark commissioning represents a key enhancement of India’s underwater warfare and submarine rescue operations, placing it among a small group of nations with such advanced capabilities.

Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam, INS Nistar is purpose-designed for high-risk underwater missions, including saturation diving, deep-sea salvage, and submarine crew recovery. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art systems such as Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Diving Support Chambers, and a Self-Propelled Hyperbaric Lifeboat, enabling operations at depths up to 300 meters—strengthening India’s readiness for blue-water operations.
