The Indian Army has signed a contract valued at 29.3 billion Indian rupees ($35 million) with local manufacturer Nibe to procure a long-range multiple rocket launcher system.

The launcher is based on Elbit Systems’ Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS), a versatile platform capable of engaging targets at distances of up to 300 kilometers. Under an agreement finalized in August, Nibe will produce the system in India in collaboration with Elbit Systems, with provisions for technology transfer and production for both Indian and international customers.

This represents the first foreign-origin multiple rocket launcher system to be manufactured domestically, advancing India’s expertise in long-range rocket artillery and supporting the country’s ambition to emerge as an exporter in this capability area.

The procurement is expected to substantially improve the Indian Army’s deep-strike capability, addressing a current operational gap. It also complements India’s ongoing investment in indigenous rocket systems, including the recent successful maximum-range test of the Pinaka guided rocket at 120 kilometers.

In comparison, the PULS system features a universal launcher that can fire multiple munition types, including 122 mm, 160 mm, and 306 mm rockets, as well as Predator Hawk tactical ballistic missiles with a reach of up to 300 kilometers. The system supports simultaneous multi-target engagement with high accuracy, demonstrated by a circular error probability of less than 5 meters, and can also deploy loitering munitions at ranges of up to 100 kilometers, offering enhanced operational flexibility.
