The United Kingdom has finalized a £350 million ($465 million) agreement with India for the supply of air defense missiles and launch systems.
Under the contract, the Indian Army will procure UK-manufactured Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) produced in Belfast, Northern Ireland — the same systems currently supplied to Ukraine. London stated that the deal deepens the UK–India defense partnership and complements existing collaboration on naval electric propulsion systems valued at £250 million ($332 million).
Developed by Thales, the LMM is a compact, short-range precision missile designed for use across air, land, and sea domains. Weighing approximately 13 kilograms, the missile can strike targets beyond 6 kilometers and reach speeds exceeding Mach 1.5.
Equipped with a laser-guided targeting system, the LMM achieves high accuracy while minimizing collateral damage. It can be deployed from multiple platforms, including shoulder mounts, tripods, vehicles, and integrated systems like the RapidRanger.
The missile is capable of engaging diverse threats such as light armored vehicles, drones, helicopters, and small naval craft. For maritime missions, it can be fired from shipborne guns or helicopters to intercept fast-moving air and surface targets in complex operational settings.
