Germany Orders 1,300+ Military Logistics Vehicles From Rheinmetall

Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) has secured a contract to deliver more than 1,300 military logistics vehicles to the German Armed Forces under a deal valued at €770 million ($891 million).

The order includes 963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some of which will feature protected driver cabins, flatbeds, or tarpaulin-arch configurations. Additionally, the contract covers 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in both 4×4 and 8×8 variants. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by end of 2025.

This acquisition is part of a larger €3.5-billion ($4-billion) framework agreement signed in July 2024, allowing Germany to procure up to 6,500 vehicles over a seven-year period. The framework includes a wide range of logistics vehicles in the 5-ton and 15-ton categories, and now also incorporates a new 3.5-ton 4×4 vehicle class.

Germany’s Bundeswehr has been operating UTVs since 2017, following a contract with RMMV to supply 5-ton and 15-ton cargo versions. Since then, RMMV has delivered around 7,000 HX family vehicles, including swap-bodies and 70-ton semi-trailer variants. Both the UTV and swap-body systems are based on RMMV’s proven HX platform.
