Germany’s Bundestag has authorized seven major defense contracts to enhance the country’s military readiness and NATO commitments, headlined by a €3.75-billion ($4.36 billion) order for 20 Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 5 aircraft.

The newly acquired fighters will replace the Tornado ECR fleet, currently used for enemy air defense suppression, and will be fitted with E-Scan AESA radar systems for improved detection and electronic warfare capability.

The Eurofighter acquisition, funded through the standard defense budget, also covers engines, spare components, and logistical support, with deliveries expected from 2031 through 2034.

To further enhance training capacity, the Bundestag has approved €412 million ($480 million) for upgraded flight and tactics simulators, ensuring continued pilot proficiency. Financing will draw from both the Bundeswehr’s special modernization fund and regular budget allocations.
