The German Army will soon deploy SitaWare Edge, a next-generation situational awareness platform from Danish firm Systematic, under a newly signed supply contract.
Designed for soldiers in rapidly changing and disconnected environments, SitaWare Edge delivers planning tools directly to mobile devices and tablets. Its interface combines mapping, force tracking, mission planning, and chat functions, while maintaining ease of use to minimize training requirements. The software also integrates with external applications, giving commanders on the front line real-time intelligence sharing and operational coordination with higher headquarters.
One of its key features is the ability to function securely on limited networks, using tactical radios, satellite links, and other low-bandwidth systems. The contract includes a development package enabling the Bundeswehr to adapt the platform with custom tools and additional integrations.
This acquisition is part of Germany’s Mission Enabling Service, a larger modernization program aimed at building a unified digital command-and-control architecture across all domains. The goal is to improve the speed, reliability, and effectiveness of communications from top-level command down to individual soldiers.
The initiative is also consistent with NATO’s 2022 Digital Transformation Vision, which emphasizes interoperability and connected forces. By integrating SitaWare Edge, Germany expects to increase its battlefield agility and improve collaboration with allied militaries.
Systematic’s solutions are already well embedded within the Bundeswehr’s modernization strategy. In 2023, the relationship was reinforced through a seven-year maintenance framework covering updates, support, and integration of the SitaWare suite.
