Germany’s Budget Committee has reportedly approved a €25 million allocation to procure up to 747 Twister reconnaissance drones for the armed forces. The Quantum Systems-built platform will replace the aging Aladin close-range reconnaissance system. According to reports, an initial 147 systems will be acquired for approximately €16 million, with the remaining units available through optional orders under a framework agreement totaling around €70 million. Quantum Systems is capable of producing up to 250 drones per year, with potential for increased output. Before fielding, the Twister must undergo qualification by the German Armed Forces, making deployment unlikely before 2027. The procurement follows a 2024 tender seeking a replacement for the two-decade-old Aladin drone built by EMT. Twister is an electrically powered reconnaissance UAV with a 3.8-kg maximum takeoff weight, 3,800-m ceiling, 15-km range, and 90-minute endurance. It supports vertical takeoff and landing and can operate in environments where GPS is denied.
