Estonia and South Korea have signed a defense cooperation pact for the purchase of the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), a move that will expand Estonia’s long-range precision strike capability.
The Chunmoo, produced by Hanwha Aerospace, will operate alongside six HIMARS launchers provided by the US—systems that Estonia ordered in 2022 and received in January 2025. The Baltic state is also planning additional HIMARS acquisitions.
Once deployed, Estonia will become the second European user of the Chunmoo after Poland.
Poland placed an initial order for over 200 Chunmoo MLRS units in 2022 and followed up with a second batch of 72 in 2024. The country received its first launcher in 2023 and designated it “Homar-K.”
In April 2025, WB Electronics of Poland and Hanwha Aerospace agreed to jointly produce Chunmoo missiles domestically within three years, with production also aimed at potential European exports.
In September, Hanwha further expanded cooperation by partnering with Sweden’s Saab to explore integrating the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into the Chunmoo system.
