RENK Test System (RTS) of Germany has secured a major contract to supply a comprehensive suite of vehicle testing systems for the Royal Netherlands Army.
Awarded by the Dutch Army Maintenance and Logistics Command, the contract covers a 1,500-kilowatt full drivetrain test rig and three engine test rigs rated at 1,500, 700, and 350 kilowatts.
The new equipment will be used to support sustainment, repair, and overhaul operations for the Army’s tracked and wheeled vehicle fleet, including the Leopard 2 main battle tank and a range of lighter tactical vehicles.
The test systems will be installed at the Technology Center Land, a new logistics and maintenance hub currently being developed for the Dutch Army.
This facility will replace legacy buildings and consolidate testing infrastructure, workshops, and technical support functions at a single modern site.
RTS’ scope of work includes delivery of the test systems as well as related building equipment.
To facilitate on-site integration and construction, RTS has partnered with Bunschoten-based Van Halteren Technologies, which will act as a local subcontractor.
Although the contract value was not made public, RTS stated that it is worth a double-digit million sum in euros.
At present, the Netherlands leases approximately 18 Leopard 2A7 tanks from Germany for training, while also pursuing the acquisition of 46 Leopard 2A8 tanks, with deliveries planned between 2028 and 2031.
According to RTS Managing Director Mathias Karrer, the contract underscores the company’s strong position in the niche market for advanced military test systems.
The award also supports the Netherlands’ wider defence modernisation plans, including a proposed defence budget increase to €26.8 billion ($31.4 billion) in 2026, following a planned annual allocation of €24 billion ($28.1 billion) beginning this year.
