Saab has secured a new contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds to supply its UTAAS (Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System) sighting and fire-control suite for CV90 armoured vehicles.
The contract is valued at roughly SEK 314 million ($34 million), with deliveries scheduled for completion during 2029–2030.
UTAAS is currently fielded on CV90 fleets operated by Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands, and has been chosen by Denmark, Estonia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia to equip future acquisitions or modernised variants.
Designed to deliver precise fire against both ground and aerial threats, UTAAS enables engagement of helicopters and low-altitude aircraft. Its modular, scalable design allows users to tailor capability levels while ensuring compatibility with future system enhancements.
All optical channels share a single aperture, ensuring consistent alignment and improved system robustness. The independent line-of-sight mechanism allows the operator to maintain continuous target lock while laser ranging data is processed, with the fire-control computer automatically adjusting weapon aim.
The system’s sensor head can move independently in elevation and azimuth, supporting reliable tracking of high-speed air targets. UTAAS is compatible with multiple weapon types, networked command-and-control architectures, and smart-ammunition programming solutions.
It offers air-target engagement ranges of up to 2,000 meters and stabilised firing accuracy while the vehicle is in motion at speeds of up to 30 km/h, with ground-target engagement ranges reaching 5,000 meters.
