Albania and Türkiye’s defense firm KAYO have signed an agreement to build an advanced small arms production facility in Albania, marking a key step in the country’s drive to develop indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities. The initiative seeks to enhance Albania’s self-reliance in arms production and support its ongoing military modernization. The partnership leverages Türkiye’s extensive defense industrial experience and KAYO’s technical expertise in weapons manufacturing. The planned facility will serve as a cornerstone for Albania’s defense industry, enabling local assembly, maintenance, and potential exports of military-grade weapons. Albanian officials emphasized the project’s importance in strengthening national defense readiness while fostering regional security cooperation. It also reflects a broader trend of Balkan states expanding local defense industries through strategic partnerships with Turkish companies. The collaboration includes provisions for technology transfer, workforce training, and infrastructure development to ensure sustainable local production. This initiative further deepens the bilateral defense relationship between Albania and Türkiye, positioning Tirana as a growing participant in NATO’s collective defense ecosystem. Once operational, the plant is expected to boost domestic production capacity and open opportunities for regional defense trade.
