Anduril has completed the purchase of American Infrared Solutions (AIRS), a move aimed at bolstering its infrared sensor production and ensuring secure access to cooled camera technologies for defense and space applications.

The integration of AIRS’ cooled infrared imaging systems into Anduril’s platforms will strengthen the company’s sensor autonomy ecosystem, enabling precise threat detection across air, ground, sea, and space domains.

AIRS’ New Hampshire operations will continue serving existing defense and commercial customers, while providing Anduril a vertically integrated sensor pipeline that supports its growing portfolio of AI-enabled systems.

The acquisition aligns with global defense trends emphasizing multispectral and infrared imaging as militaries adapt to complex, multi-domain battlefields.

Such sensors are pivotal in platforms like the MQ-9 Reaper and Gray Eagle UAVs, the AN/AAS-44C targeting pod, and counter-UAS systems including Leonardo DRS’s MX-GCS and Teledyne FLIR’s Boson+, which detect and track drones in adverse conditions.
