The Finnish Navy’s Pohjanmaa-class corvette program has reached another key milestone with the launch of the second vessel at Rauma Shipyard, as all four ships in the class move through serial production. The launch occurred less than twelve months after construction started and comes after the lead ship entered the outfitting phase following its launch in May 2025.

At the same time, work on the remaining vessels is progressing, with the third corvette officially laid down and production of the fourth ship already underway since January 2026. Ordered under Finland’s Squadron 2020 program, the new corvettes are designed to replace seven older warships and enhance maritime security in the strategically important Baltic region. Measuring 117 meters in length, the ships are capable of carrying over 70 crew members and a helicopter, achieving speeds of 26 knots and operating ranges of up to 6,500 kilometers. Equipped with advanced weapons including IAI Gabriel anti-ship missiles, Saab Torped 47 torpedoes, RIM-162 ESSM missiles, remote weapon systems, naval artillery, decoys, and electronic warfare capabilities, the Pohjanmaa-class will form the backbone of Finland’s naval force from 2027 onward.
