Varjo, a Finland-based technology company, has launched a new generation of mixed reality headsets tailored for military and defense simulation training.

The expanded XR-4 Series introduces the Secure Edition and Focal Edition, engineered to deliver high-resolution visuals and immersive fidelity for training across air, ground, and naval operations.

Each model incorporates next-generation sensors, ergonomic improvements for extended missions, and secure-certified variants designed for classified or radio-silent environments. The headsets also feature autofocus passthrough capability, enhanced low-light performance, and reinforced construction for use in demanding field conditions.

Varjo stated that these upgrades create a more authentic and resilient MR platform, supporting hybrid training setups that blend real and virtual elements. The systems remain fully compatible with existing military simulators, including those used in flight and armored vehicle training.

The release comes amid a growing defense-sector shift toward immersive simulation technologies that enhance readiness and cost-efficiency.

The US Army currently employs Varjo’s XR-3 headsets in its RVCT (Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer) program, which enables helicopter teams to conduct realistic mission rehearsals without full-scale simulators.

Meanwhile, in Europe, the Finnish Air Force has integrated MR systems into its Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) training network, allowing pilots to combine live flight with virtual scenarios. Similarly, a Czech-developed MR simulator has been deployed to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 aircraft.
