At Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut, the US Navy has commissioned the USS Iowa (SSN 797), marking the 24th addition to its Virginia-class fast attack submarine fleet. The submarine was delivered earlier this year as part of a multibillion-dollar contract awarded in 2014 for nine Virginia-class vessels.
