The UK has awarded a £4.99 million ($6.7 million) contract to Callen-Lenz for the supply of kamikaze drones, strengthening the deep-strike capabilities of its armed forces. The agreement covers the Nyan One Way Effector, a platform already trialed and fielded by departments within the UK Ministry of Defence.
According to the contract notice, the procurement was deemed essential to sustain or enhance operational capability, combat readiness, force protection, and overall security. Nyan is currently the only off-the-shelf system of its kind listed on the Military Aircraft Register and is designed to integrate standard government-furnished equipment.
The award forms part of a broader push to expand Britain’s unmanned warfare portfolio. In 2025, Modini Limited secured a £4.5 million ($6 million) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to provide precision strike drones under the Human Machine Teaming Framework, selected for its technical strength and delivery timeline. Later that year, Flyby Technology was chosen to deliver an initial Jackal system for autonomous airborne effector trials focused on force protection and battlefield autonomy. Meanwhile, initiatives such as the UK Ukraine Project OCTOPUS seek to scale up interceptor drone production in the UK, combining Ukrainian intellectual property with British manufacturing expertise.
