German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has entered into multiple partnerships with Indian defense companies to advance the joint development and production of naval weapons and anti-submarine warfare systems. These agreements are part of India’s maritime modernization strategy and complement the government’s “Make in India” program, which promotes domestic defense production and industrial growth.
Among the initiatives is a memorandum of understanding with Hyderabad-based VEM Technologies to design and modernize heavyweight torpedoes within India. TKMS’ subsidiary Atlas Elektronik will provide expertise, while VEM will handle local assembly, integration, and testing.
The collaboration also extends to future projects, such as participation in India’s P75(I) submarine program, joint efforts with DRDO, and the creation of new defense production infrastructure to support both domestic requirements and international exports.
