Thales and Navantia have joined forces to support a major upgrade of the Royal Thai Navy’s fleet, their first collaboration within Thailand.
As part of the deal, Thales will supply three IFF systems for the modernization of two Pattani-class patrol vessels and the upgrade of the HTMS Chang landing platform dock, with Navantia handling Chang’s overall refurbishment.
The package includes Thales’ TSA3520 interrogator—designed for mid- to long-range detection—and the TSC4000 transponder, used across naval vessels, aircraft, and unmanned platforms. When integrated into the ships’ radars and combat systems, these technologies will help the Thai Navy better identify friendly units and potential threats.
The partnership builds on ongoing engagements. Thales already equips the Royal Thai Navy with radars, sonar systems, mine-hunting technology, and fire control and command solutions. Earlier this month, it won a contract to install an integrated platform management system on the aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet, streamlining control over propulsion, power systems, auxiliary machinery, and damage-control functions.
Navantia’s role in the HTMS Chang upgrade was previously announced in April, covering the integration of advanced combat management, surveillance, and fire control systems, along with several additional technologies.
