Sweden has taken delivery of the final batch of upgraded Archer artillery systems from BAE Systems Bofors, concluding a national effort to enhance its long-range precision strike capabilities.
According to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), all 24 Archer 6×6 units have now been upgraded to the “Version C” configuration, featuring a new command support suite and multiple vehicle performance improvements.
With this delivery, at least two artillery battalions have reached full operational readiness, which FMV officials hailed as a major milestone in the army’s modernization initiative.
The completion of the Archer upgrade program is part of Sweden’s broader defense reinforcement following its NATO accession.
Stockholm continues to prioritize joint-force modernization, expediting procurement processes and ensuring interoperability with allied militaries.
Earlier this year, the Swedish Air Force received upgraded JAS 39 Gripen fighters featuring AESA radars and advanced electronic warfare systems.
Simultaneously, the Swedish Navy began sea trials of the A26 Blekinge-class submarines, engineered for stealth and extended endurance in Baltic operations.
On land, Sweden is also ramping up production of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle for both domestic deployment and exports to NATO partners such as Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
