India’s rapidly evolving defence startup landscape has received another boost as Svaayatt Systems Pvt Ltd, headquartered in Vadodara, unveils its indigenously developed SGV-500 Scorpion unmanned ground vehicle. The company is gearing up for a live demonstration before the Indian Armed Forces, highlighting a weaponized UGV designed for combat and tactical support roles.

The upcoming trials mark an important milestone, transitioning the SGV-500 from a developmental platform into a system ready for operational validation. The demonstration will assess key parameters including weapon integration, mobility across varied terrains, communication robustness, and precision targeting under remote operation.

Designed as a compact tracked combat robot, the SGV-500 is built for demanding battlefield roles such as surveillance, fire support, perimeter defense, and engagement of hostile forces and light armored targets. Its design prioritizes operation in high-risk environments while reducing direct human involvement.

Live firing exercises will be a central component of the demonstration, with integrated weapons such as light machine guns and grenade launchers. The system is engineered to identify and engage targets within three seconds, delivering high levels of accuracy consistent with its onboard armament.

The platform’s mobility capabilities enable it to navigate rough terrain, climb steep slopes, and operate over extended distances, with an expected endurance exceeding 40 km per mission. Its compact size and tracked configuration allow it to function effectively in tight spaces, including urban combat zones.

Technically, the SGV-500 weighs about 500 kg and features armored protection for enhanced battlefield survivability. It can achieve speeds of up to 30 km/h and operate within a 10 km line-of-sight control range, extendable via drone-based relay systems.

A key innovation is its VR-based control interface, which provides an immersive first-person operational experience by linking operator head movement directly to camera and weapon alignment, significantly enhancing awareness and engagement precision.

The system’s modular design allows rapid reconfiguration for multiple roles, including logistics support, casualty evacuation, firefighting, and drone deployment, making it a versatile asset across mission scenarios.

Ensuring secure and reliable communications will also be a focus of the trials, validating its ability to maintain stable command links in electronically contested environments.

The SGV-500 underscores the global shift toward unmanned combat systems and highlights the advantages of indigenous development in terms of customization, cost efficiency, and strategic autonomy. For India, such platforms could transform operational approaches in border management, counter-insurgency, and urban warfare. A successful demonstration could accelerate its path toward induction and broader deployment.
