Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has unveiled the Freedom Trainer jet as its contender for the US Navy’s Undergraduate Jet Training System program.
Developed from a clean-sheet design, the Freedom is said to be the only trainer aircraft able to perform carrier touch-and-go operations and Field Carrier Landing Practice to touchdown.
This capability would allow student naval aviators to begin practicing essential carrier landing approaches earlier in their training than with current platforms.
