SAP SE has launched a dedicated defense innovation center in Munich to reinforce digital preparedness for military and security clients facing increasingly complex cyber and hybrid threats.
According to the company, the initiative represents a sustained effort to strengthen the digital backbone of defense institutions, ensuring mission effectiveness, allied interoperability, and supply chain security.
The Munich hub will combine advanced data capabilities, artificial intelligence applications, and sector expertise to create integrated digital frameworks for logistics management, defense procurement, manufacturing processes, training systems, and long-term sustainment operations.
Thomas Saueressig, a member of SAP SE’s executive board responsible for customer services and delivery, described the center as a testament to the vital role digital technologies play in mission readiness, governance oversight, and maintaining operational independence.
Leveraging Munich’s Ecosystem
SAP noted that Munich’s dynamic defense and technology landscape — including startups, established contractors, academic institutions, and public agencies — makes it an ideal location for the hub.
A key collaborator is the Technical University of Munich, which will support the program through research partnerships.
The university’s recently established “Security and Defense Alliance” seeks to link emerging companies with leading defense firms to advance deployable solutions that contribute to deterrence, crisis response, stabilization efforts, and peace support missions.
