Renk Group has announced plans to expand its footprint in Poland by establishing new maintenance and production facilities aimed at supporting NATO’s eastern defenses. The expansion reflects rising defense investments in Poland and the growing operational presence of the NATO across the region.
The initial phase will focus on servicing tank transmissions, engines, and chassis components, with local production to follow later. According to Der Spiegel, the facilities are expected to serve military customers in Ukraine, Poland, and neighboring Baltic states.
Renk plans to invest as much as €500 million ($580.8 million) over the next four to five years to scale up production capacity and enhance research and development. Prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the company manufactured roughly 200 to 300 gearboxes annually, but it now expects output to increase to around 800 units by the end of 2026. The company is also targeting a threefold increase in revenue by the end of the decade compared with 2024 levels.
Based in Augsburg, Renk has reorganized production at its main facility by introducing modular manufacturing techniques similar to those used in the automotive sector, allowing the company to significantly boost efficiency and expand deliveries. Its customers include the German Navy and leading armored vehicle manufacturers such as KNDS, Rheinmetall, and Leonardo.
Company officials note that while European defense industries are increasing support for military programs, faster delivery of equipment is still required to improve combat readiness. They also highlighted that main battle tanks continue to play a critical role on the modern battlefield despite the rapid rise of drone warfare.
