Babcock International of the UK and Turkish defense firm Aselsan are exploring a partnership to address the Royal Air Force’s evolving electronic warfare training needs.
The agreement centers on the potential development of a Surface Electronic Warfare Threat training system as part of the RAF’s Next Generation Operational Training program. The initiative aims to enhance how UK aircrew prepare for contested air operations by replicating advanced threat environments without depending solely on live training exercises.
This move aligns with the UK’s efforts to adapt its training approach as adversaries introduce more capable air defense and electronic warfare systems.
Under the collaboration, the companies will evaluate whether a jointly produced solution could model modern Integrated Air Defence Systems, including radar and surface-to-air missile threats. The proposed capability would enable realistic, flexible, and reconfigurable electronic warfare training scenarios for pilots and mission crews.
Babcock will leverage its background in military training delivery and operational support, while Aselsan will provide specialist electronic warfare expertise. No details have been released regarding timelines, funding, or system configuration, and any future development would depend on Ministry of Defence requirements and approvals.
