Orqa, a Croatia-based drone technology firm, has signed a cooperation agreement with Qatar’s Barzan Holdings to assess opportunities for localized production of unmanned systems, strengthening defence industry ties between Zagreb and Doha.

The agreement was formalized in Doha during the DIMDEX 2026 maritime defence exhibition, with Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister and senior Qatari defence officials in attendance.

Both companies stated that the cooperation will explore partnership models, including the potential establishment of local manufacturing capabilities in Qatar for Orqa’s drone platforms.

Croatian Defence Minister Ivan Anušić highlighted the increasing role of unmanned systems in contemporary military operations, noting that Orqa’s products are fully European-made and are gaining traction in international markets.

He added that expanding Croatia’s defence industrial base enhances national security by lowering reliance on foreign suppliers.

The Qatar partnership follows a period of intensified defence modernization and international collaboration by Croatia over the past two years.

As part of its air force renewal, Croatia has proceeded with the induction of Rafale multirole fighters from Dassault Aviation under a French government-to-government agreement, replacing the MiG-21 and markedly improving combat aviation capability.

In parallel, Croatia has advanced land systems modernization, confirming additional agreements with Finland’s Patria in 2023 for armored vehicles that support both force requirements and domestic industrial involvement.

Zagreb has also strengthened cooperation with the United States through programs linked to the transfer, refurbishment, and sustainment of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, supported by US defense contractors.
