Northrop Grumman and MBDA have signed a collaboration agreement to enhance Germany’s air and missile defense systems.
The partnership will integrate Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Battle Command System with MBDA’s air-defense platforms, providing interoperability through shared demonstrations and technical cooperation.
IBCS operates as a modular command-and-control network, fusing multiple sensors and weapon systems to enable unified engagement decisions.
Among its key components are the S-280 Shelter, which hosts the Engagement Operations Center, and the Integrated Collaborative Environment, supplying the infrastructure for 12–24 operators.
Another major element is the Integrated Fire Control Network, an unmanned system that builds communications links across command nodes and weapons via radio, fiber, or satellite.
The network also enables plug-and-fight integration, allowing different air-defense assets to connect without major redesigns.
With this capability, IBCS distributes real-time targeting data across the system to support coordinated responses.
