MBDA has upgraded its MISTRAL 3 missile to counter the rising threat of fast inshore attack craft (FIAC), enhancing the defense of surface ships in close-range scenarios.

The improved version passed its final qualification trials in Spain, confirming the system’s readiness.

The enhancements include refined flight control, upgraded guidance, and improved image processing, which now also support night-time engagements.

The missile has already proven capable of targeting drones with minimal infrared signatures, including “Shahed-type” UAVs commonly seen in conflict zones.

MBDA emphasized that MISTRAL 3 remains the only battle-proven VSHORAD missile capable of neutralizing these threats reliably in both day and night conditions.
