Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky has unveiled a new generation of VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) drones that blend the characteristics of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. Known as the Nomad family, the drones feature MATRIX autonomy technology, an open-architecture system co-developed with DARPA for use across rotary and fixed-wing platforms. Equipped with twin proprotors, the Nomad series offers the maneuverability of a helicopter alongside the speed and endurance of an airplane, enabling vertical takeoff, hovering, and long-range efficient flight.
