South Korean IT firm LG CNS has been awarded two major contracts by Seoul’s Defense Information Agency to modernize military communications networks and strengthen digital infrastructure across the armed forces.
One contract involves the integration of communication networks used by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, creating a standardized and interoperable environment.
The second contract covers the redevelopment of the agency’s defense facility management system, aimed at unifying data, streamlining workflows, and improving coordination throughout the lifecycle of military infrastructure.
The network-focused initiative, referred to as the Network Integration Project for Parallel Communications Networks, will standardize network architectures across all branches, addressing long-standing limitations caused by siloed systems that hindered rapid information sharing.
The project will deploy software-defined networking to enable centralized router management nationwide and will introduce layered cybersecurity protections, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and countermeasures against high-volume traffic attacks.
A key component of the upgrade is an AI-based real-time monitoring system capable of automatically identifying and assessing cyber threats within seconds, significantly enhancing response speed and operational resilience.
For the Next-Generation Defense Facility Integrated Information System Construction Project, LG CNS will redesign the Defense Information Agency’s facility management platform by linking 12 internal government systems and eight external platforms.
The upgraded system will merge administrative, financial, operational, and geospatial data—such as topographic and land-use information—into a single environment, enabling end-to-end visibility and control over planning, budgeting, construction, maintenance, and national asset management through one centralized interface.
