Ukraine’s Fold Develops Fiber-Optic FPV Drone With 100-Kilometer Range
Ukrainian defense startup Fold is building a fiber-optic first-person view (FPV) drone capable of flying nearly 100 kilometers (62 miles)—twice the range of most existing FPV models.
The system is adapted from low-cost quadcopters, typically priced at only a few hundred dollars, yet powerful enough to deliver explosives against armored targets.
Unlike conventional drones that rely on radio frequency links prone to jamming, Fold’s design connects to its operator via a spooled fiber-optic cable, ensuring reliable control even under electronic warfare conditions.
