Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state-owned defense conglomerate, has joined forces with U.S. firm D&M Holding Company to launch a gunpowder manufacturing venture in the United States, dedicated to supporting Ukraine’s military needs.
Revealed at the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Rome, the initiative is designed to alleviate a major bottleneck in Ukraine’s ammunition production—the shortage of gunpowder. As a key ingredient in munitions, gunpowder is in short supply globally.
Establishing the facility in the U.S. also ensures it remains shielded from Russian attacks. This venture will significantly contribute to Ukraine’s goal of scaling up domestic ammunition production, including the increasingly vital 155mm artillery rounds.
Ukraine began serial production of these NATO-standard shells in September, moving away from older 152mm Soviet-era stocks and aiming for long-term self-reliance in ammunition manufacturing.
