Indonesia’s PT Pindad has signed an agreement with Germany’s Rheinmetall to advance ammunition technology development, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its defense industrial base.

The partnership is part of a broader initiative by Jakarta to expand global defense collaboration. In 2025, the government awarded a contract to Dassault Aviation for the Rafale fighter jet fleet.

PT Pindad is simultaneously working on several technology-sharing programs, including projects with FNSS (Turkey) on the Kaplan tank, and with South Korean and Indian defense firms on weapons and vehicle technologies.

Parallel efforts by PT PAL Indonesia in naval shipbuilding cooperation with Dutch and Japanese companies further demonstrate Indonesia’s pursuit of self-reliance backed by international partnerships under its Defense Industry Policy.
