In a landmark move for European defense cooperation, Germany and the Netherlands have inked a €4.5 billion agreement via OCCAR to acquire 222 SCHAKAL infantry fighting vehicles, further expanding their Boxer fleets. The contract represents a key advance in NATO’s mobility and resilience initiatives while reaffirming the Boxer’s status as a modular, future-ready combat platform.

Signed in Bonn, the agreement brings the cumulative OCCAR Boxer program value beyond €10 billion and introduces 270 vehicles, including new Ambulance and Driver Training variants for Germany. These additions feature upgraded C4I, enhanced optics, and improved medical support capabilities. At the center of the package is SCHAKAL—an advanced IFV jointly developed by Germany and the Netherlands, combining the Boxer 8×8 chassis with the PUMA RCT30 remote turret system equipped with a 30 mm cannon. The deal also covers initial in-service support and paves the way for future upgrades and variant development across the Boxer user community.
