A joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland has secured a contract from Germany and the Netherlands to supply 270 Boxer armored vehicles via the Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation, valued at 4.5 billion euros ($5.25 billion). Germany will receive 198 vehicles and the Netherlands 72.
Germany’s 3.4-billion-euro ($3.96 billion) portion includes 150 infantry fighting vehicles, 10 driver trainers, and 38 ambulances, with deliveries scheduled from 2027 to 2031. The first Dutch Boxers are expected by late 2028. The agreement also allows for 248 additional vehicles — 200 for Germany and 48 for the Netherlands.
The program will field the Schakal infantry fighting vehicle variant, integrating the Boxer drive module with an unmanned Rheinmetall RCT30 turret. The turret features a stabilized 30mm x 173mm/ABM machine gun firing programmable air-burst rounds for defeating micro drones at up to 1,500 meters. It also carries a pair of MELLS (Spike LR/Spike LR2) anti-tank missiles. The system incorporates the most advanced Boxer drive module, intended as the standard across OCCAR Boxer nations.
