L3Harris Technologies has delivered the first upgraded P-8A Poseidon to the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), fulfilling a key milestone under a U.S. Navy contract awarded on September 30, 2024.

The aircraft underwent depot-level overhaul and modifications at the company’s Waco, Texas facility, with work that began earlier this year and is scheduled to run through September 2029.

The contract covers comprehensive maintenance for a fleet of 139 P-8A aircraft, including tasks such as airframe refurbishment, avionics modernization, systems testing, and component servicing.

This program is a cornerstone of the Navy’s long-term plan to ensure mission-ready capability across the Poseidon fleet, which plays critical roles in maritime patrol, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, and ISR operations.

In addition to supporting the U.S. Navy, L3Harris will also manage depot support for international customers through foreign military sales. Seven aircraft are currently being overhauled, with nine units expected to be inducted during the first year of performance.
