Elbit Systems of Israel has won approximately $150 million in new contracts to equip European aircraft fleets with its J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection system.

The initial contract covers the installation of J-MUSIC on high-value airborne platforms operated by an unnamed European customer. Further orders extend to transport aircraft operated by European NATO nations, strengthening survivability during critical strategic and tactical airlift missions.

The deals follow Elbit’s earlier $260-million agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to supply DIRCM systems for Germany’s A400M military transport fleet.

DIRCM systems are specifically designed to counter infrared-seeking missiles, including shoulder-fired MANPADS, which pose a persistent risk to transport aircraft, tankers, special-mission aircraft, and government or VIP jets.

J-MUSIC combines advanced laser-based countermeasures with sophisticated imaging technologies, providing effective protection against a broad array of heat-seeking infrared missile threats.

Engineered as a compact and lightweight solution, the system can be installed across multiple aircraft types and supports both single- and multi-turret configurations. Its open-architecture framework allows integration with a variety of missile warning systems, delivering flexible and comprehensive protection for both military and civilian aviation users.
