EDGE Group from the UAE and Spain’s Indra Group have agreed to create a defense manufacturing company in Spain that will specialize in loitering munitions and advanced smart weapons. The partnership is intended to boost European strategic autonomy in defense while catering to the continent’s growing defense requirements.

The facility, to be located in León, will leverage EDGE’s advanced systems know-how alongside Indra’s industrial infrastructure. Indra is set to invest €15–20 million to establish the drone production capabilities needed for the project.

The new modular manufacturing capacity aligns with Europe’s drive to secure domestic supply chains for critical defense technologies and reduce dependence on imports. EDGE has been rapidly expanding outside the UAE, acquiring Milrem Robotics in Estonia and taking a stake in Brazil’s SIATT, both of which enhance its robotics and missile technology capabilities.

EDGE also strengthened its European operations through the acquisition of Swiss UAV firm ANAVIA, establishing a new headquarters and drone prototyping hub in Bilten to support co-development and localized manufacturing.
