The Philippine Navy has initiated the Operational Readiness and Capability Tests (ORACT) for its latest guided missile frigate, BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), as part of its mandatory process for achieving full mission-ready status. The tests are aimed at thoroughly evaluating the ship’s warfighting capabilities and the crew’s performance in line with the Navy’s strategic and doctrinal standards.
ORACT is a four-phase process that starts with the inspection of all onboard systems, crew qualification checks, and validation of operational procedures. The second phase involves identifying weaknesses through simulated combat drills. The third phase focuses on resolving these issues, with support from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and internal support units.
The final phase ensures that all improvements are institutionalized, resulting in a sustainable state of combat readiness. The testing includes scenarios across Anti-Surface, Anti-Submarine, Anti-Air, and Electronic Warfare domains, exposing the ship and crew to high-threat, mission-realistic environments.
