The UK Ministry of Defence plans to convert surplus Warrior infantry fighting vehicles into optionally crewed, remotely operated mine-clearance platforms.
Under Project ATTILA, six Warriors will be modified in the first phase with front-mounted breaching gear such as ploughs, rollers, or line charges for deployment both at home and abroad.
The second stage will focus on integrating autonomous functions and defining requirements for future unmanned ground vehicle acquisitions.
The £12 million ($16 million) contract is scheduled to run from January 2026 to March 2028, with an option for a one-year extension. Currently, the UK military operates around 359 Warriors, with another 80 awaiting disposal.
First introduced in 1987, the Warrior is set to be replaced by the Boxer IFV by 2030. Its armored, tracked design makes it a suitable choice for conversion into expendable platforms capable of breaching enemy minefields.
The initiative is part of a wider Western military shift toward adopting uncrewed systems for complex battlefield tasks.
