As part of its proposal for the UK military’s next standard rifle, BDT UK has revealed the Beretta New Assault Rifle Platform and a Sako AR-15-style system.
This forms part of Project Grayburn, which will determine the requirements for the successor to the SA80 L85, the mainstay of British infantry since the 1980s, scheduled to be phased out by 2030.
The transition plan calls for the L85 to remain operational until replaced, with procurement of as many as 172,000 rifles to be carried out in stages over the coming decade.
