BAE Systems has introduced its M109A7 52-caliber prototype, integrating Rheinmetall’s 155mm L52 gun with the U.S. Army’s trusted M109A7 Paladin chassis to expand range and rate of fire. Developed as a near-term answer to the Army’s extended-range capability gap after the ERCA program pause, the system emphasizes performance growth without sacrificing operational compatibility.

As the cornerstone of U.S. Army self-propelled artillery, the M109A7 offers improved mobility, protection, and power efficiency. It retains the architecture of the long-serving Paladin family while incorporating electric drive systems, advanced digital fire controls, and enhanced diagnostics. The 52-caliber variant demonstrates how the M109A7 platform can evolve to meet future long-range precision requirements—bridging current operational needs with the Army’s vision for next-generation fires capability.
